Bearish is a term used in trading to describe the condition in a market, or the sentiment of investors. Market participants, who believe that a security/contract is going to decline in price, regardless of what it actually is doing at that moment, are said to be “bears”. Traders with a ‘bearish’ outlook may ‘short’ a contract to profit from the fall in prices. Just because someone is bearish does not necessarily mean they are correct, whatever might be their reputation. Legendary trader Jesse Livermore once famously said, “Markets are never wrong, opinions often are.”
